The 16-Year-Old Brownie

Dear Reader,  Yesterday was an important day, the day in which I got my Young Leader Qualification signed off! After almost 2 years with a unit, I have run 3 activities, observed leadership styles and the young members, whilst gaining an understanding of the programme and our aims.  I thought that it would be appropriate to reflect on some of the things I have done in order to achieve this qualification, and begin to look forward to my Adult Leadership Qualification (ALQ)... ~ The activity I was most proud of was the Promise activity that I ran for the girls. Dear Reader,  Currently, at one of the Brownie units I volunteer with, we have been working on the World Traveller interest badge. This has involved making our own passports, designing a postcard, and sending our 'Flat Brownie' around the world. As I like to get involved with the activities, I sent my 'Flat Brownie' away off to New York with my boyfriend Nathan and his family, to spend 4 days eating waffles, walking in the snow and also narrowly avoiding being hit by a police car! (honestly) My 'Flat Brownie' travelled from the Norfolk Broads to Gatwick Airport, and then most likely slept through the 7 and 1/2 hour flight if she's anything like the real me. Real me has never been on a plane, but considering I sleep everywhere else, I expect nothing less. Well... I HAVE FAILED! No doubt about it, I have failed rather impressively. I have only completed around 25 activities so far, and have started a 26th.  So, I think I should probably explain myself... I am a college student, a babysitter and a very, very sleepy person! I spent my Easter holiday trawling through a lot more than 2 weeks worth of homework (Thank you teachers), earning money, and sleeping. Dear Reader, The summer term is a busy one for all units, the sun is coming out, meaning the girls can do activities outdoors, and many units are also planning trips, or residentials! So, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to write a few posts about what some of our local units are getting up to this term, starting with The Senior Section! First, we joined with the Guides to take part in the Votes for Women challenge badge, creating banners, stained glass windows and having a debate about who should have the vote - the men or the women, the rich or the poor! As a unit we came to the conclusion that everyone deserves the right to vote!! As a unit, we voted on the badge we wanted to do this term - and as a result of a tie - we're already well underway with our World Centre Challenge badge from 1st Mynydd Du Guides and will soon be making a start on the In Guiding We Grow challenge badge from Girlguiding Beccles.  We then voted on the activities we...
