Dear Reader,
This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units.
WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP. We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves.

We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to meet some of our Trefoil ladies who came along to help us, and we had a special visit from Linda, our newly instated Division Commissioner.
Everyone who attended the sleepover (for any amount of time), helped us to make a lovely fingerprint tree as a record of the day, which is now on the wall in the meeting place. Thank you Paula for designing it!!
Also this month....
Guides had been busy finishing their Oink challenge badge for Chinese New Year, and have recently taken part in a 'Breaking Free' peer education session with me (my first time delivering this session, and my first session with a guide unit). Several ££££ of photocopying later, the girls were making their role model pitches and thinking about the impact of social media on stereotypes.
Brownies have been continuing with their Lead skills builder and we have thought about what makes a good role model and they completed some valentines's day activities. We also completed Cecil, the brownie snake, and the girls came up with lots of ideas about what they enjoy about Brownies, and other things they'd like to see.
At Rainbows we have continue steadily completing a variety of UMAs and Skills Builders, drawing closer to achieving some of the badges. We have made made Chinese New Year dragon puppets as part of our puppet pals skills builder, decorated World Thinking Day postcards and learnt about the meaning of the day and some of our rainbows attended their first sleepover with us.
Things coming up in March include my first aid training, pancake day all round and an Eggy bread challenge badge!
History fact of the Month....
On the 11th January 1975, Margaret Thatcher changed politics when she become the first female leader of the Conservative party!
