Dear Reader,

Interested in a leadership role? Working towards badges and awards independently? Completing courses such as Peer Education? Interested in international trip opportunities?
The Senior Section offers all of this.. and more!

As a member of The Senior Section I have been able to become a Peer Educator, go on an international trip to Disneyland Paris, complete my Young Leadership Qualification, and begin working towards my octants.

Members of The Senior Section work towards the Look Wider programme - a set of 8 octants that each challenge the member to be creative, active, imaginative and willing to help others. Each octant contains 3 phases that must all be completed, each of which challenge the girl to a new level, and require increasing amounts of time and dedication - such as learning a new language, creating a website, or going on an international camp in the UK - such as a jamboree. Image result for senior section octants setImage result for senior section octants set
They may also wish to work towards their Young Leadership Qualification (YLQ), which involves volunteering within another section - such as Brownies - and running activities, developing their leadership skills, observing the girls personal development, and expanding their knowledge of GirlGuiding's fundamental values, including safeguarding and our main aims.
As a Young Leader I have been lucky enough to get involved in a Brownie sleepover, pack holiday and a trip to Butlins for Brownie Starburst. I also planned and ran activities such as book cover designing, and promise jars - to help the Brownies understand and apply their promise, as well as expanding my own CV, by logging my volunteering hours and completing a safeguarding course.

THE SENIOR SECTION IS ABOUT YOU, AS MUCH AS IT IS ABOUT HELPING OTHERS!!

As well as the safeguarding course, I was able to complete a weekend training at our local centre Hautbois House, in Peer Education. As a Peer Educator, the member can visit any Brownie, Guide or other Senior Section units, to deliver sessions on topics such as Mental Health, Bullying and Body Image, which involved discussion, games and creativity.

In October 2017, I got the opportunity to go on my first international trip with Guiding, and where better than Disneyland Paris! This enabled me to meet other Guides, and members of the Senior Section, as well as beloved Disney characters of course.

With my own unit, I have completed badges such as Go for It Chocolate, Go for It Be the Change, and the Keep on Swimming challenge badge, spent many hours geocaching around the local areas, been on a district trip to the zoo, and a visit to London to celebrate 100 years of The Senior Section - where we visited the UK's World Centre - Pax Lodge and our GirlGuiding headquarters, and  I made my promise in Madame Tussaud's, with none other, than Captain America!

Currently, we are working towards a 100 years of votes for women challenge badge, and I am working independently towards the Magical Kingdoms challenge badge, alongside my Community Values octant, and Commonwealth Award, and have recently completed my Personal Values octant.

I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law,
Yours,
The 16-Year-Old Brownie

♡World Thinking Day, Chinese New Year and Breaking Free... a February round-up♡

Dear Reader, This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP . We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves. We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to...

♡Easter, First Aid and some 'Time Travelling Rainbows'... a March and April Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,  So,I'm 2 months behind...again.. which appears to be my usual. And every time I forget to do things I blame it on college.. however, A levels really are looming now!!! I'm definitely excited for study leave followed by a part time programme - I'll have lots more time for things I enjoy, like writing, reading and for working on my ALQ, and ranger badges. However, the lucky thing is that you're getting 2 months in 1... can't argue with that. March was FUN-FILLED, PANCAKE PACKED & FUNDRAISING FANTASTIC!!!   One of the highlights of that March was our fantastic Rainbows and Guides fundraiser, including a huge raffle, jar tombola, and stalls from local sellers, such as fudge and homemade crafts. The evening raised a total of £267 (£133.50 for each unit) to help buy resources and carry on the opportunities for the members.  Our district members enjoyed many exciting opportunities - including our 4 Brownies sixers taking a trip to the...

♡Eaton Vale - Brownie Pack Holiday 6-8th July 2018♡

Dear Reader,  Last weekend we took 16 Brownies to Eaton Vale Guide and Scout Activity Centre, to experience some of the activities on offer as well as the activities we had organised ourselves. The programme for the weekend was packed full of outdoor activities, crafts and really, really good food! 🍔🍦 Friday 6th July After a failed Tesco delivery and an emergency trip to Tesco to cater for 21 people for the weekend, which is 2 scarily full large trolleys.... the fun was underway! After settling in and eating our tea, we embarked on a very complicated, slightly unclear orienteering trail that I in no way understood, and myself and Eagle Owl wandered around along with about 10 Brownies, in the wrong direction quite a lot of the time! #fail Skittles, the unit bear! The evening was then spent popping our heads repeatedly into the corridor to ask why the Brownies weren't in bed and going to sleep very late, of course! Thank goodness for the 'snug'...
