♡ A Farewell to Potter Brownies...and an introduction to the 17-Year-Old-Brownie♡

Dear Reader,

On Saturday 21st July, 3 leaders, 1 young leader and 4 Brownies arrived at Hellesdon Scout Hut, for their GoGo Hare sleepover...

We then spent a few hours searching for Hares in the city centre, including the Cathedral, Castle Mall, and the Puppet Theatre, as well as a lovely walk, and lunch along the river bank. Afterwards, we returned to Hellesdon to look at the airport runway, but unfortunately no planes were taking off, and then enjoying fish and chips for tea. The Brownies made beautiful light jars, with silhouette scenes, illuminated by the LEDs inside...

We then took advantage of the excellent fire pit at the scout hut, by lighting a campfire and making smores, whilst singing campfire songs, including an amusing rendition of 'What shall we do with a drunken sailor?' before heading off to bed, for a very undisturbed night....

Sunday morning dawned, and after waking up on a very deflated air bed, the second day was in full flow. There was however, a catch... it was my birthday! The celebrations started at breakfast, with my birthday bagel, which I thought was very inventive!

After dismantling the tents, and putting away the airbeds, we set to work decorating stones in honour of their sleepover, to become Norfolk rocks. Once this was done, it was soon time for me to go home, to enjoy the rest of my birthday with my family and friends, but before I was able to leave, there was time for a bit more of a celebration, featuring a gluten free Colin the Caterpillar cake called Frieda, and also, a farewell...

Over 2 years ago I decided I wanted to do my Young Leader's Qualification. It was set up for me to go to 1st Potter Heigham Brownies, a small unit, with a tight-knit leadership team (mother and daughter to be precise);but I soon felt that I fitted in, and enjoyed every minute working with the Brownies, seeing many come and go, and achieving and developing a lot during their time with the unit.
Now, years on, I'm about to start my A-Level year of college, starting my Adult Leadership qualification with another unit, and potentially taking in a local pantomime, and the time has come for me to leave Potter Brownies, with fond memories to look back on, including 2 sleepovers, and completing many badges. I am grateful that I was able to leave the unit on such a high not, and although tears where shed when I got into the car, my time with the unit was a happy one.

I don't think anyone could possibly ask for a better, or cuddlier birthday/leaving gift, which is such a perfect memento of the sleepover and the unit. Rest assured 'Harriet the Hare' is treasured.

Thank you to everyone who made it an enjoyable weekend

Also, don't forget to subscribe to The 16-Year-Old Brownie, to receive an email when I post. Look for the button at the top of the home page ;)

I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law,
Yours,

♡World Thinking Day, Chinese New Year and Breaking Free... a February round-up♡

Dear Reader, This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP . We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves. We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to...

♡Easter, First Aid and some 'Time Travelling Rainbows'... a March and April Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,  So,I'm 2 months behind...again.. which appears to be my usual. And every time I forget to do things I blame it on college.. however, A levels really are looming now!!! I'm definitely excited for study leave followed by a part time programme - I'll have lots more time for things I enjoy, like writing, reading and for working on my ALQ, and ranger badges. However, the lucky thing is that you're getting 2 months in 1... can't argue with that. March was FUN-FILLED, PANCAKE PACKED & FUNDRAISING FANTASTIC!!!   One of the highlights of that March was our fantastic Rainbows and Guides fundraiser, including a huge raffle, jar tombola, and stalls from local sellers, such as fudge and homemade crafts. The evening raised a total of £267 (£133.50 for each unit) to help buy resources and carry on the opportunities for the members.  Our district members enjoyed many exciting opportunities - including our 4 Brownies sixers taking a trip to the...

♡Eaton Vale - Brownie Pack Holiday 6-8th July 2018♡

Dear Reader,  Last weekend we took 16 Brownies to Eaton Vale Guide and Scout Activity Centre, to experience some of the activities on offer as well as the activities we had organised ourselves. The programme for the weekend was packed full of outdoor activities, crafts and really, really good food! 🍔🍦 Friday 6th July After a failed Tesco delivery and an emergency trip to Tesco to cater for 21 people for the weekend, which is 2 scarily full large trolleys.... the fun was underway! After settling in and eating our tea, we embarked on a very complicated, slightly unclear orienteering trail that I in no way understood, and myself and Eagle Owl wandered around along with about 10 Brownies, in the wrong direction quite a lot of the time! #fail Skittles, the unit bear! The evening was then spent popping our heads repeatedly into the corridor to ask why the Brownies weren't in bed and going to sleep very late, of course! Thank goodness for the 'snug'...
