♡Pizza Hut and many, many Hares: A Stalham District Ranger sleepover - June 2018♡

Dear Reader,

This year, Norwich, and the surrounding areas of Norfolk, play host to a total of 68 beautifully decorated GoGoHares. This time around, there are 2 different trails: the City Trail consisting of 50 hare sculptures, and a County Trail made up of 18 special 'Moongazer' hare sculptures, placed in scenic spots around Norfolk such as Cromer and Holt. In addition there are 164 Leverates (baby hares) designed by local schools, colleges and community groups, placed around the county.

More information available at https://www.gogohares.co.uk/

And get sneak peaks of the gorgeous hares on the official Instagram https://www.instagram.com/gogohares_2018/

As the GoGo trails are such a well loved and anticipated event for Norwich, Stalham District Rangers decided to incorporate it into a sleepover, and set ourselves the challenge of how many we could find, as well as working towards the Pull's Ferry challenge badge.

Let's hop right to it shall we! 😉

On Friday night we arrived at our accommodation, Pull's Ferry, home to the Norwich Division Headquarters and situated along the river, with gorgeous views and everything we needed, a.k.a A KETTLE! After setting ourselves up, we wandered into Riverside, to find some Hares, and also very importantly, Pizza Hut!

We also had the privilege of 'The King of Scribbles', the hare residing at Pull's Ferry playing a part in our lovely view.

Before heading out, we took on the challenge to learn and understand some Norfolk dialect...

After finding the 5 Hares dotted in and around Riverside, we took our Pizza back to the room to begin working on our Pull's Ferry challenge. As part of this, we created Range-Hare, our very own little hare, from newspaper, string, sellotape and wooden skewers....

Despite many plans for evening, we were all very tired, and quite little was achieved before falling asleep. However, the energy we would gain would prove to be very useful the next day...

On Saturday morning, the real Hare hunt began.

Making use of the car we drove out to Norwich prison to find one of the Moongazer hares, as well as visiting the Roman Catholic cathedral, before heading into the City Centre to really increase our hare count.

In total, including those on Riverside, we managed to find 45/50 City Hares, as well as 2/18 Moongazers, at the prison, and at Wroxham Barns, which we popped in to find on our way home.

As well as looking for the Hares, we completed the Norwich Cathedral labyrinth, played 'pooh sticks' with paper boats off of the Jarrold bridge and bought GoGoHares merchandise in Jarrold's and the forum shop.

My personal favourite hares are Honey Bunny (pictured below), Haremione and Lepus (the county hare residing in North Walsham market place!

After around 6 hours looking for the Hares, we admitted defeat and returned to the car and journeyed home, where I definitely didn't move for the rest of the evening.

Thank you so much to the lovely ladies I got to spend the time with and I personally really hope I can find the rest of the Hares somehow, even the far out county ones. Fingers crossed!

♡World Thinking Day, Chinese New Year and Breaking Free... a February round-up♡

Dear Reader, This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP . We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves. We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to...

♡Easter, First Aid and some 'Time Travelling Rainbows'... a March and April Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,  So,I'm 2 months behind...again.. which appears to be my usual. And every time I forget to do things I blame it on college.. however, A levels really are looming now!!! I'm definitely excited for study leave followed by a part time programme - I'll have lots more time for things I enjoy, like writing, reading and for working on my ALQ, and ranger badges. However, the lucky thing is that you're getting 2 months in 1... can't argue with that. March was FUN-FILLED, PANCAKE PACKED & FUNDRAISING FANTASTIC!!!   One of the highlights of that March was our fantastic Rainbows and Guides fundraiser, including a huge raffle, jar tombola, and stalls from local sellers, such as fudge and homemade crafts. The evening raised a total of £267 (£133.50 for each unit) to help buy resources and carry on the opportunities for the members.  Our district members enjoyed many exciting opportunities - including our 4 Brownies sixers taking a trip to the...

♡Eaton Vale - Brownie Pack Holiday 6-8th July 2018♡

Dear Reader,  Last weekend we took 16 Brownies to Eaton Vale Guide and Scout Activity Centre, to experience some of the activities on offer as well as the activities we had organised ourselves. The programme for the weekend was packed full of outdoor activities, crafts and really, really good food! 🍔🍦 Friday 6th July After a failed Tesco delivery and an emergency trip to Tesco to cater for 21 people for the weekend, which is 2 scarily full large trolleys.... the fun was underway! After settling in and eating our tea, we embarked on a very complicated, slightly unclear orienteering trail that I in no way understood, and myself and Eagle Owl wandered around along with about 10 Brownies, in the wrong direction quite a lot of the time! #fail Skittles, the unit bear! The evening was then spent popping our heads repeatedly into the corridor to ask why the Brownies weren't in bed and going to sleep very late, of course! Thank goodness for the 'snug'...
