Dear Reader,
(This is very late, however, I am enjoying being able to reflect on it)
(This is very late, however, I am enjoying being able to reflect on it)
Firstly, I am sorry! I haven't posted in 78 days.... I had a rather busy summer holidays, including seeing friends & family, completing a ridiculous number of hours of study, and going away twice, which took up 2 weeks.
I am now back at college, fully in the swing of Year 13, and feeling the pressure of A-Levels, whilst starting my Adult Leadership qualification, attending more Peer Educator trainings, and continuing to have a boyfriend and a sort of social life... 😟
The most exciting thing about my summer holiday is that one of my weeks away was spent at my first (and last) jamboree as a participant... and my fabulous time on the 1980s subcamp.

NORJAM 2018!!!!
In summary, I had an absolutely fantastic week zorbing, abseiling and bouncing myself happy in the activity fields, leaping for faith at Eaton Vale activity centre, and enjoying the music and performances of the main stage. I even had a few seconds of fame on NORJAM's very own radio station Jam.FM.
The range of activities organised on site included 3 activity fields, filled with zorbs, bungee jumps, shooting, climbing, abseiling, zip-wiring, inflateables; an arcade, featuring classic games such as Hook a Duck, coconut shy, as well as a Punch and Judy show, and a silent disco, in which much jumping around to 'Mr Brightside' took place over the week. During the week we also watched a circus performance, attended the opening and closing ceremonies at the main stage, and I successfully managed to complete all the badge challenges on offer.
A fantastic day was enjoyed by the 80s subcamp at Colchester Zoo.. need I say more?
My personal highlights from the week have got to be
- the International evening, where acts from Ghana, Sweden, Wales, Uganda and Thailand performed songs and dance from their cultures
- going to Colchester Zoo and seeing meerkats, and penguins
- discovering I'm pretty good at air rifle shooting
- collecting badges, pegs, and souvenirs, including the Glass etched pint glass I made in the craft barns, and my stack of NORJAM newspapers
Spending a week on subcamp really makes you realise just how much work the subcamp staff put into a jamboree behind the scenes, running activities at the subcamp office, organising challenges for the jamboree badges, providing all manner of help and support, from cleaning the toilets, to answering questions, to returning lost property. I shall definitely be looking into going to future jamborees as a staff member!!
After a fantastic, but long, and tiring week, I was however thankful to get home to my shower, my bed and my family, and look forward to NORJAM 2022.
NORJAM 2018... MANY CREPES WERE EATEN...MANY FRIENDS WERE MADE...SO MUCH FUN WAS HAD!!!
