♡Hello..I'm still here. Let's have a catch up!♡

Dear Reader,

Lately life has been Guiding, work, Guiding, coursework, Guiding, sleep.. oh, and Guiding!

So, I'm back!

Currently, I am working hard studying poetry and contract law, taking on overtime at work every Saturday, committing my Wednesday AND Thursday evenings to Rainbows, Brownies and Rangers and at the same time trying to fit in food, sleep, a relationship and getting the most out of my Netflix subscription.....

Here's a cute picture of Stitch. You're welcome!

I first joined 1st Stalham Rainbows as a Guide helper in 2014, aged 13. I spent around 8 months there before leaving to join Potter Heigham Brownies as a Young Leader. However, 2019 has seen me rejoin the unit as part of their brand new leadership team alongside my Brownie Leader/ District Commissioner Hannah and lovely friend/ fellow Senior Section member Paula. I am looking forward to the future of our unit, in our brilliant new location and supporting the girls to enjoy the new programme. 2 weeks into the rejuvenated unit and I've already been covered in flour, sat under a giant parachute and will be running my first activity on Wednesday - bring on the tissue paper and glue!!

2nd Stalham and Sutton Brownies currently has moi adventurously taking on their new programme activities for the term 😰 As a shiny new Leader in Training, I have chosen the 'Lead' Skills Builder (from the Skills for My Future theme - for anyone that means anything to) designed to help the girls understand and improve leadership, as well as their listening skills, and self-govern but also do crazy things like dance challenges and designing zoos! We also made promise owls, aimed at helping our newest Brownies learn their promise and help the others refresh and reflect on the promise they made. So far, I think the girls are having fun, and so am I! - until the boring part where I sit and write notes about it on a Friday afternoon :(
The unit recently enjoyed a chocolate themed, but rather chilly, sleepover at the gorgeous Roughton Mill, and welcomed our two fantastic Guide Helpers, 'Puffin' and 'Robin'.

At Rangers we recently completed our first new programme badge, our First Aid skills builder from  the 'Be Well' theme, and are ready to go onto Communicate, from the 'Express Myself' theme. We will soon be joining the Guides for the 'I Love Eggy Bread' challenge badge. I am also personally working towards my Ranger Gold Award, as Guiding have very kindly come up with a shortcut route for those girls nearing the end of their time in a section, and I am of course continuing on with my Look Wider octants, many of which are well on their way to being completed. I am currently planning my Women's Rights interest badge, and will then be working towards my Voting and Travel interest badges.

That's about it really. That's what we're all up to; busy, busy, busy.

I am progressing well with my Adult Leadership Qualification and I am enjoying being involved with multiple units again. I have two of the most important qualities to be a GirlGuiding leader... I am a little bit crazy, and I seem to think I have an unlimited amount of time!

Also, don't forget to subscribe to The 16-Year-Old Brownie, to receive an email when I post. Look for the button at the top of the home page ;)

I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law,
Yours,

The 17-Year-Old Brownie

♡World Thinking Day, Chinese New Year and Breaking Free... a February round-up♡

Dear Reader, This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP . We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves. We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to...

♡Easter, First Aid and some 'Time Travelling Rainbows'... a March and April Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,  So,I'm 2 months behind...again.. which appears to be my usual. And every time I forget to do things I blame it on college.. however, A levels really are looming now!!! I'm definitely excited for study leave followed by a part time programme - I'll have lots more time for things I enjoy, like writing, reading and for working on my ALQ, and ranger badges. However, the lucky thing is that you're getting 2 months in 1... can't argue with that. March was FUN-FILLED, PANCAKE PACKED & FUNDRAISING FANTASTIC!!!   One of the highlights of that March was our fantastic Rainbows and Guides fundraiser, including a huge raffle, jar tombola, and stalls from local sellers, such as fudge and homemade crafts. The evening raised a total of £267 (£133.50 for each unit) to help buy resources and carry on the opportunities for the members.  Our district members enjoyed many exciting opportunities - including our 4 Brownies sixers taking a trip to the...

♡Eaton Vale - Brownie Pack Holiday 6-8th July 2018♡

Dear Reader,  Last weekend we took 16 Brownies to Eaton Vale Guide and Scout Activity Centre, to experience some of the activities on offer as well as the activities we had organised ourselves. The programme for the weekend was packed full of outdoor activities, crafts and really, really good food! 🍔🍦 Friday 6th July After a failed Tesco delivery and an emergency trip to Tesco to cater for 21 people for the weekend, which is 2 scarily full large trolleys.... the fun was underway! After settling in and eating our tea, we embarked on a very complicated, slightly unclear orienteering trail that I in no way understood, and myself and Eagle Owl wandered around along with about 10 Brownies, in the wrong direction quite a lot of the time! #fail Skittles, the unit bear! The evening was then spent popping our heads repeatedly into the corridor to ask why the Brownies weren't in bed and going to sleep very late, of course! Thank goodness for the 'snug'...
