♡Rainbows, Roughton and Rangers.. A January Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,

What a month January 2019 has been! We've thrown ourselves back into Guiding after the holidays and even took Brownies away 1 week into the new term. We are enjoying the new programme and looking forward to our February World Thinking Day celebrations.

Brownie Sleepover, 11th - 12th January

A brand new venue this time around - Roughton Mill. I must say I've never slept in an old mill before, nor do I have much experience with circular rooms, but this checked them both off the list. We had fun doing the Chocolate challenge badge, for which I got to bake with the girls, design a chocolate bar and watch them try to get an after eight mint from their nose to their mouth without using their hands! 🤣

Other events at Brownies include our Skills for my Future new programme activities lead by moi, several new Brownies, an enrolment, promise owls, and we excitedly await the birth of Tawny Owl's baby.

Introducing 1st Stalham Rainbows

Lately, my 'Fluffy Owl' duties have increased, and I have returned to Rainbows. We have 6 girls and have been busy getting to know the girls, helping them understand Rainbows and the new programme (we're gently introducing the activities) and making shortbread, badges and a big unit rainbow collage to help us understand our promise.

Eagle Owl is doing an excellent job with her first experience as a Unit Leader and we hope the unit will be begin to grow and thrive soon!🌈

World Centres Challenge Badge - Stalham District Rangers

Recently, we have been completing new programme badges, working towards our octants and finishing our challenge badges, by making African masks, block printing, proctoring first aid and then choosing our new badges. I am looking forward to completing our In Guiding We Grow challenge badge and our upcoming skills builder.

In other news...

Recently, I have collected A LOT of badges, including new programme badges, challenge badges, 7 anniversary badges and a few others I bought online..oops. Today I came across a photo of my camp blanket in March 2018... but this is the difference

March 2018
January 2019

My ALQ is progressing well and I have already completed a few sections, with plans to complete the other important areas. I am also progressing well with the things I need to complete my new programme interest badges in order to get my Ranger Gold Award.

History fact of the Month....

On the 10th January 1918, parliament passed the bill that would later lead to the 1918 Representation of the Peoples Act, which gave women over 30 the right to vote, paving the way for future equal political rights.

Also, don't forget to subscribe to The 16-Year-Old Brownie, to receive an email when I post. Look for the button at the top of the home page ;)

I promise that I will do my best, to be true to myself and develop my beliefs, to serve the Queen and my community, to help other people and to keep the Guide Law,
Yours,

The 17-Year-Old Brownie

♡World Thinking Day, Chinese New Year and Breaking Free... a February round-up♡

Dear Reader, This month has been an exciting one in the district. Most importantly we have enjoyed celebrating World Thinking Day - with units completing their own activities and discussions about the meaning behind the day - all topped off with a joint sleepover between some of our units. WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides & Girl Scouts) selected this year's World Thinking Day theme as LEADERSHIP . We interpreted this by naming our sleepover groups after key figures/leaders in Guiding, such as District Commissioners, Division Commissioners and WAGGGS themselves. We held our sleepover at our local meeting place on the 22nd (thinking day itself) and had over 20 girls attend from across 4 different units, including 2 of our young rainbows. The girls got to enjoy a rotation of activities including knot tying, tent building, cheese rolling, making rings out of pringles and a snow ball fight with tissues to finish. As well as the district leaders, the girls got to...

♡Easter, First Aid and some 'Time Travelling Rainbows'... a March and April Round-Up♡

Dear Reader,  So,I'm 2 months behind...again.. which appears to be my usual. And every time I forget to do things I blame it on college.. however, A levels really are looming now!!! I'm definitely excited for study leave followed by a part time programme - I'll have lots more time for things I enjoy, like writing, reading and for working on my ALQ, and ranger badges. However, the lucky thing is that you're getting 2 months in 1... can't argue with that. March was FUN-FILLED, PANCAKE PACKED & FUNDRAISING FANTASTIC!!!   One of the highlights of that March was our fantastic Rainbows and Guides fundraiser, including a huge raffle, jar tombola, and stalls from local sellers, such as fudge and homemade crafts. The evening raised a total of £267 (£133.50 for each unit) to help buy resources and carry on the opportunities for the members.  Our district members enjoyed many exciting opportunities - including our 4 Brownies sixers taking a trip to the...

♡Eaton Vale - Brownie Pack Holiday 6-8th July 2018♡

Dear Reader,  Last weekend we took 16 Brownies to Eaton Vale Guide and Scout Activity Centre, to experience some of the activities on offer as well as the activities we had organised ourselves. The programme for the weekend was packed full of outdoor activities, crafts and really, really good food! 🍔🍦 Friday 6th July After a failed Tesco delivery and an emergency trip to Tesco to cater for 21 people for the weekend, which is 2 scarily full large trolleys.... the fun was underway! After settling in and eating our tea, we embarked on a very complicated, slightly unclear orienteering trail that I in no way understood, and myself and Eagle Owl wandered around along with about 10 Brownies, in the wrong direction quite a lot of the time! #fail Skittles, the unit bear! The evening was then spent popping our heads repeatedly into the corridor to ask why the Brownies weren't in bed and going to sleep very late, of course! Thank goodness for the 'snug'...
