Dear Reader,

This quote particularly resonated with me after my recent struggles around my confidence in my leadership and my abilities to interact with the young people around me and very poignant considering that this month, from the 1st - 7th June was Volunteer's Week. Am I a good leader? Do I inspire girls to want to come to Rainbows/Brownies and to want to achieve? and during my time away from guiding in order to focus on my exams I found myself beginning to consider whether guiding was something I should continue to pursue, or something I should begin to move on from. But then I came back from my exams, and my passion for guiding and for young people came back with full force and I made the split decision, there and then, to do even more!
I needed to stop putting myself down, think about all the amazing things I have already achieved in my relatively short 7/8 years in guiding and carry on taking every opportunity that comes my way. So, with that in mind, I have booked a week off work next August and fully intend to apply to be a member of staff at Essex International Jamboree 2020!!!! I also went to the Royal Norfolk show this month and spent a day volunteering on the Norfolk Guiding and Scout stand - which we even won a prize for... and I had the most amazing day. It was there, just yesterday, that a guider I had never met turned to me after I spent some time showing her how to paracord, and said "There's no doubt you are a leader". She's right, I am a leader, and the things I do do make a difference, to the young people, to the other volunteers around me and to my community.
This month has been very busy in our local district units. Personally I absolutely love the summer term because all units start doing outdoor badges and activities and trips etc. Rainbows, Brownies and Guides have been working on activities from the outdoor, adventure based badges in the programme such as the explore skills builder.
Rainbows have been having fun learning about their 'tree-mendous' senses by spending time outside and thinking about the way things look, feel and sound. We worked with the girls doing tree rubbings and touching and smelling different types of leaves, as well as playing a game to help them learn the 'secrets of survival' which included finding shelter and exploring together.
We also held a jar tombola stall at a local fete to raise money for the unit, which enabled us to buy resources for the girls (badge books etc) and all the badges they've been working so hard on all term.
Brownies have also been learning about outdoor activities by working towards their Explore skills builder and have been out and about in the local area including a trip to visit Stalham's Firehouse museum, to learn about the fire service through history and how their uniform and equipment has changed, in one of Britain's oldest fire houses.
Guides spent an evening at a local nature reserve, whilst working on their Explore skills builder, as well as an evening spent paddle boarding, whilst Rangers (myself and Paula) spent a day at the Norfolk show to top off a rather unproductive term in which we had around 1 meeting.. oops...
At the show we did 2 shifts on the stand, teaching visitors how to make paracord people and chatting to them about how to join guiding, as well having our own time to explore and eat a lot of chips and fudge! We're definitely going back next year <3

Sorry this was a short, and late, one but July is also coming up for you TODAY!!
History fact of the Month....
On June 19th 1917, the British royal family renounced their German name of 'Saxe-Coburg-Gotha' and adopted the name of Windsor.
